Today we have Jenni as our Blogger In The Spotlight, you will find Jenni blogging over at Odd Socks And Lollipops and is a stay at home to her amazing daughter, Boo.
Jenni writes, blogs, watches sci-fi movies, reads fantasy books, plays board games, walks, and shops (not all at the same time, and not necessarily in that order) and tries to fit some housework and cleaning in there somewhere.
Let’s put Odd Socks And Lollipops in the spotlight
Can you tell our readers about yourself?
I am a 30-year-old mum to one amazing, noisy, messy toddler Boo. I live with Boo, my husband (who is Danish) in the Midlands and we love to go exploring and making a mess.
How would you describe your blog?
What inspired you to start your blog?
I wanted something that was mine when I was on maternity leave, a space to let my muddled ideas spill out into. I love reading books and I love writing and I guess blogging was an extension of that. It’s my journey through parenthood basically.
What topics do you cover on your blog?
It’s my parenting journey – exploring my Hyperemesis Gravidarum pregnancy and the after effects in has had on me, our breastfeeding journey and raising our daughter to be bilingual. (and various reasons to eat biscuits).
How do you want to improve yourself and your blog in the next year?
I want to be more organised and have set days where I can have blog free evening -maybe watch a movie without a laptop on my knee! As for my blog – I would like to get more of my craft posts actually published and start to review a range of different things. I would also like to make some kind of sense of Facebook
How do you motivate yourself to keep the blog up and running?
I love blogging, I love discovering a new blogs, and reading a post that really makes me think and or question. I guess I like to see improvements, not just numbers but more engagement with people – and improvement for myself – like I feel my photos are getting a lot better – I still have a long way to go but they are better than they were.
What do you find the most frustrating aspect of blogging?
My Blog’s Facebook Page- I just don’t get Facebook
What is the most positive aspect about blogging?
I think I would have to say writing a post that you have really put your heart into and finding it resonates with others and helps them. Every time I write about my Hyperemesis Gravidarum it always makes me sad that others have suffered but it also makes me happy I am sharing my story because I wish I hadn’t felt so alone.
How much time do you spend blogging?
Have you always blogged about the same content that you blog about today?
As my blog follows my parenting journey I used to write a lot of stuff about babies and breastfeeding, but now my daughter is a toddler I write less about breastfeeding even though I am still breastfeeding her. I don’t really know why this is. I share more of my random thoughts that are not related to parenting. Would you encourage other people to make their own blog? Yes, I love blogging and it’s the best hobby I have ever had (though it’s a total timesink!)
What is the best advice you could give to someone who is just starting their own blog?
Think about the blog name – will it last (my first blogname didn’t it had baby in the title so I changed it after 6 months)- and if you are a parent think about if you want to share your children’s names and photos – I decided I was happy to use photos but I would use my daughter’s nickname, Boo instead of her real name.
What type of networking do you think is better to enhance your traffic to the blog and to engage with your readers?
I really love twitter, it’s nice to chat with people, (it makes a nice break from arguing with a toddler!)
Is blogging your profession or just a hobby?
A hobby for me, though one day I would love to be able to do it as a job – I am not sure this will ever happen but it would be lovely!
A lot of people think that blogging is an easy way to make money online? Do you agree?
I wouldn’t say it was easy – it takes a lot of time and effort. It can be fun and sometimes you can get sent some lovely stuff to review but it can also be frustrating!
