I think my kids lay awake at night thinking of ways to tick me off in the morning. It is the only explanation for the madness of my school day mornings.
After a lovely week of lie-ins its back to the chaotic and stressful mornings.
Having to rush around getting the three youngest dressed, as mornings appear to paralyse their limbs.
Ensuring everyone has everything they need for the day, but we appear to have a morning ghost who hides the things they need.
I openly admit I hate mornings
I am not a morning person, never have been and I never will be.
The kids seem to hate mornings too and they lay awake at night plotting their revenge for me waking them up.
The last 3 mornings have just been awful.
Despite checking all kids have done their homework and have everything they need in their school bags ready, of course, we can never just walk out the front door on a morning.
There is …
- A child who has lost a shoe
- A child who hasn’t got their PE kit and needs it for that day
- A child who didn’t want a drink with breakfast but now needs one
- A child who needs the toilet
- A child who now has toothpaste all over their school jumper
- A child who has a form that I needed to sign 2 weeks ago
My kids lay awake at night planning revenge
I can never make just one breakfast, all want something different.
- One wants toast
- One wants Weetabix
- One wants crumpets
- One wants a breakfast bar
- One wants something I do not have
- One isn’t hungry
- One doesn’t like any of the endless choices I shout out
I have 3 neat piles of uniform laid out each night ready, the older three sort their own.
I get up half an hour earlier than the kids so I can guzzle at least 2 cups of coffee before I have to wake the demon creatures.
If they have had a later than normal night they are a nightmare to get out of bed and with them having the previous week off school it has got us out of a routine.
I am literally pushing them out the front door and then rushing them to school so we are not late.
I feel like I am ready for bed the moment the school bell rings.
Our school morning routine is non-existent and I am convinced my kids lay awake at night thinking of ways to tick me off in the morning.
Do you have a great morning routine with your school age kids?
Have you any tips for me?
Are your kids nightmares on a morning?
Are you a morning person?
