Let’s Put Life Of A Blind Girl Under The Spotlight
Can you tell our readers about yourself?
I am 20 years old and currently at university. I am blind due to Retinopathy Of Prematurity. I hope to work in the sight loss field when I graduate from university and help others like myself.
I hope to work in the sight loss field when I graduate from university and help others like myself.
How would you describe your blog?
I like to think my blog Life Of A Blind Girl portrays a positive message about disabilities but highlights the barriers that we as blind/disabled people face.
I’d like to think that it is informative as I cover many things to do with disability.
What inspired you to start your blog?
I was inspired by quite a few things to start blogging.
I wanted to change people’s perceptions on disability and thought that joining the blogging community would be a good way to do so.
I was also inspired by other bloggers like myself.
One other thing that inspired me to start blogging is my favourite singer Jessie J. She inspired me to stay true to myself and to love who I am.
Consequently, I wanted to reach out to other blind and visually impaired people or anyone that was struggling to accept something in their life and help them in any way that I can.
What topics do you cover on your blog?
I cover many topics; disability, student life, music, technology, beauty, fashion, and lifestyle.
How do you want to improve yourself and your blog in the next year?
I’d like to make it more appealing to fully sighted people by adding more visual content such as images to compliment my blog posts. I’d also like to reach out to a wider audience and spread the word about my blog.
How do you motivate yourself to keep the blog up and running?
I motivate myself by thinking that I could be helping someone that really needs it, whether they are struggling with a disability or something in their daily life. I could be helping them and might not even know, so that is why I continue blogging.
What do you find the most frustrating aspect of blogging?
There are a couple of things that I find frustrating about blogging.
The first is not including visual content in my blog because I am blind so can’t see images.
The second is spreading my blog and gaining readers – I’ve found this quite hard but I am slowly improving on this aspect.
What is the most positive aspect about blogging?
Personally, I think the most positive aspect about blogging is helping others and educating them on sight loss/disability.
How much time do you spend blogging?
It varies really due to university work and personal commitments but I try to put 1 or more posts up a week.
Have you always blogged about the same content that you blog about today?
Yes – this is something that I am passionate about.
Would you encourage people to make their own blog?
Definitely. I’ve made new friends through blogging.
I also think it helps to let your feelings out.
What is the best advice you could give to someone that is just starting their own blog?
Blog about something that you’re passionate about and a topic that you are interested in.
If you do this, you will have so much to talk about.
What type of networking do you think is better to enhance your traffic to the blog and engage with your readers?
I’d definitely say social networking.
This allows you to share your content publically and talk to your readers.
Is blogging your profession or just a hobby?
It’s just a hobby but it would be amazing if it was my profession!
A lot of people think blogging is an easy way to make money online? Do you agree?
No. If someone wants to blog as a profession then why not?
It’s something that they love to do and if it makes them happy that’s so important.
Personally, I haven’t made money through blogging.
