Losing over ten stone in 16 months by healthy eating alone this mummy blogger is a force to be reckoned with, she oozes dedication and determination.
Let’s Put Just Average Jen In The Spotlight
Can you tell our readers about yourself?
I am a thirty-something pretty average kind of woman. I am actually 36 now but that sounds too close to 40 for my liking so I like to think I am just 30 something! I live with my partner Stuart and my son Ben.
Ben has special needs and I don’t work at the moment as I am his carer when he isn’t at school and finding out of school care for him is pretty much impossible.
I think I am just quite average really, hence the name for my blog!
How would you describe your blog?
My blog Just Average Jen I feel doesn’t completely fit into any brackets as such though I guess if you had to choose it would be lifestyle.
It is a bit of a food blog, a bit of a fitness blog, a bit of a lifestyle blog and I guess some parenting thrown in there too!
What inspired you to start your blog?
My blog is about my weight loss of over 10 stone, so many people say I am inspirational and should share my story so I decided the best way to do that would be through blogging.
Unlike many weight loss bloggers though I didn’t actually start my blog until after I had achieved my weight loss goal!
I am quite a chatterbox and love to share my story, my ideas and motivate others so having my own website to waffle on just seemed perfect.
What topics do you cover on your blog?
Weight loss, exercise, food, recipes, depression, confidence, domestic abuse, reviews of products linked to any of the subjects
I cover and giveaways of course too.
How do you want to improve yourself and your blog in the next year?
I would love to work towards monetizing my blog more successfully and increasing my reach so more people see my blog.
Personally, I would love to run a marathon, so far I have done a half marathon so I definitely want to do more of those and try to improve my time but I would love to work up to running a full marathon too.
How do you motivate yourself to keep the blog up and running?
I enjoy doing it which is motivation enough really. It is something I do for me because it is so easy when not working and being a full-time mum to feel like I don’t have anything for me but my blog is just that.
It is something I can talk to my partner about at the end of the day like he tells me about work and it is something that defines me.
My blog makes me the author of Just Average Jen, a blogger, not just Stuarts girlfriend and Bens mum.
What do you find the most frustrating aspect of blogging?
Remembering to use hashtags when I post photos on social media. I am a Facebook lover but I am not as good with Twitter or Instagram and I am forever going back to edit posts and add hashtags!
What is the most positive aspect of blogging?
I love it when I get personal messages from people saying that reading my blog has helped them.
I get a lot of these and it really brightens up my day knowing that because of me sharing my journey I have helped someone else.
How much time do you spend blogging?
I guess it varies but probably an average of an hour a day, though this is something I intend on increasing in the next few months.
Have you always blogged about the same content that you blog about today?
Yes, I have only been blogging just over a year.
I think in time I will branch out a little and extend my blog to cover other household related things not just kitchen and food but I am unsure as I don’t want to become too vague and like my blog just as it is at the moment!
Would you encourage other people to make their own blog?
Definitely, I think it is great for people like me with lots to say but not much social life. I find blogging is a way of me being a chatterbox and doing that a bit more constructively!
What is the best advice you could give to someone who is just starting their own blog?
Blog about something that interests you and that you are passionate about, there is no point sitting working on something that doesn’t interest you as it will show to your readers.
What type of networking do you think is better to enhance your traffic to the blog and to engage with your readers?
I find sharing my food photos on Instagram helps me a lot along with posting on groups linked to my blog on Facebook, such as weight loss groups etc as this helps me to get my blog out there to the people who would enjoy reading it, but do not necessarily go searching for a blog to read.
Is blogging your profession or just a hobby?
A hobby that I would love to turn into a profession and I am working towards hopefully doing this but don’t ever expect to make millions, though if it happens I won’t complain!
A lot of people think that blogging is an easy way to make money online? Do you agree?
No! If it is then I am definitely missing something. I put a lot of work into my blog and so far have had some product samples sent to review but that is about it.
It is a nice extra for me though as it has very little in the way of costs.
It is very time-consuming but that is something I had a lot of to spare so it fits in well.
I think if you are wanting to start blogging and then next month quit your job to live off you blog good luck to you, some people manage it but I do think it is harder than people think.
