Let’s put ItsVicky.com in the spotlight
Can you tell our readers about yourself?
Hello, my name is Veronica and I’m the blogger at itsVicky.com.
I was born and raised in Sweden. My husband is from the US so that’s why I now live here with him and our two kids. Two fun, energetic, creative wonderful kids that give me inspiration every day.
Love my: kids, husband, family and friends, jeans, coffee, Swedish candy, traveling, skiing and meeting new people.
How would you describe your blog?
ItsVicky.com is all about creating and improving your blog or website. This is where I share what I have learned working online for the last 8 years. I share my ups and downs, what works and what doesn’t, case studies and inspirational stories, it’s a place to share my online journey.
What inspired you to start your blog?
When I moved to the US about 10 years ago, I was looking to start my own business.
At the time, my youngest was only 2 so I needed something that was flexible. Plus, I love to travel and go back home to Sweden, so wanted a business I could bring with me…
I thought opening an online store, selling Scandinavian fabrics and wall hangings was a great idea, the problem was I had no idea what I was doing and I failed miserably.
To make a long story short, that lead me to affiliate marketing.
After doing affiliate marketing for about 7-8 years, I thought it was time to share what I’ve learned along the way.
I wanted a place to share my online journey, a place where bloggers could learn from my good and bad experiences.
That was about a year ago, and I started my blog its Vicky.com.
What topics do you cover on your blog?
I write about my own journey, I do case studies, how to posts and inspirational material. Things related to blogging and online marketing.
Every Friday, I do a “Fridays with Vicky” post. This is usually where I go in-depth on specific topics.
How do you want to improve yourself and your blog in the next year?
I believe in constant learning and continued education. I will be reading and learn from others, I will also be attending, at least, one conference.
When it comes to my blog I will continue to provide helpful valuable content for my readers. I’m also about to launch a video course on how to set up a blog or website, so looking forward to that.
I also need to get more active on social media so that’s definitely another goal of my for the year.
How do you motivate yourself to keep the blog up and running?
It is kind of therapeutic for me to write about things that go on in my online business.
When it comes to the case studies, it’s really a great way to reflect on some of the other projects that I’m working with. I do an amazon case study series, that has really motivated me to take both that site and the case study to the next level and I’m really excited to see how that site will do here in 2016.
It is also very motivating when you get positive feedback from your readers. When people enjoy and find your content helpful, that’s very rewarding.
Blogging and affiliate marketing allows me to work from home and spend a ton of time with my kids and family. They are both in school now but being able to be there for them has been priceless.
What do you find the most frustrating aspect of blogging?
Since English is my second language, I sometimes struggle with the fact that my content is not “perfect” and error free. When I do affiliate marketing I outsource most my content, which makes things a lot easier for me.
With my blog, the writing is all on me.
It can also be frustrating if you create what you think is a great piece of content, but you get little traffic and feedback from it. The promotional work of your content, can be very time-consuming and frustrating at times.
What is the most positive aspect about blogging?
All the wonderful people I meet through blogging, both through my website, through social media, conferences, and communities I’m involved with.
Helping people. It’s so rewarding when someone you’ve helped get started, become successful. Now success can be described in many ways, all from setting up their own blog to creating a full-blown online business. But helping others is rewarding.
How much time do you spend blogging?
This is what I do, I work full time with blogging and affiliate marketing. So throughout the year I work when the kids are in school, and then some more.
The thing with modern technology is that you’re always available. It’s so easy to just check on social media or just check the emails… This is definitely something I need to work on, to turn off work when I’m not suppose to be working.
I do take the summers and most other breaks off, to be with the kids, though. I really love the schedule feature in WordPress, that allow me to do keep my sites updated with fresh content even if I’m not at the desk .
Have you always blogged about the same content that you blog about today?
On the itsvicky.com blog yes, it has always been about helping others with blogging and websites. I have been writing for my other affiliate sites though on other topics.
Would you encourage other people to make their own blog?
If the person loves to write, yes absolutely. Blogging is a lot of fun and you meet a lot of great people doing it.
One thing to think of though is to have realistic expectations, and if you want your blog to grow and get a lot of traffic that it will take some time to get there.
What is the best advice you could give to someone who is just starting their own blog?
Be patient, keep writing and share your content with others. Be proud of the progress that you do. It will take time to grow a blog, but if you stick with it, you will get there and it’s very rewarding.
What type of networking do you think is better to enhance your traffic to the blog and to engage with your readers?
Communities – being a part of a blog community or a niche related community, is a great way to network and get the word out.
Social media – I’m a big Twitter fan, I find it easy to engage and interact with people on that platform. I also enjoy YouTube, it can be a great source if traffic.
Is blogging your profession or just a hobby?
This is what I do, it’s my profession.
A lot of people think that blogging is an easy way to make money online? Do you agree?
I wouldn’t say it’s easy, but it sure can be done. It will take commitment, determination, great content and time to make it happen. I do believe, though, that if I can do it, anybody can.
