I stopped smoking over 7 months ago now and while I have given the fags up, I have a new addiction. I am addicted to my e-cigarette.
The electronic cigarettes known as e-cigarettes or e-cigs are the latest trend for those giving up smoking.
Cravings for the e- cigarette are just as severe as those when I gave up the fags.
With their alluring colours, flavours and packaging and without formal FDA regulation of packaging, advertising and distribution at this time, experts and critics have legitimate concerns about Big Tobacco’s ability to mould and influence the delivery of nicotine to teens – Forbes
E-cigarettes are a tobacco-free product. E-cigs are actually vaporizers; instead of burning tobacco, the mechanism heats up a liquid. The liquid turns into vapour, which is then inhaled, or “vaped.”
While some argue that vapour offers health advantages over traditional cigarette smoke, regulatory agencies and some health experts aren’t so sure that’s true.
I thought I was doing so well with giving up the fags but now I am addicted to my e-cigarette and I feel rather cheated, being dependent upon this now.
Yes it’s saved me so much money, but I am still addicted to the nicotine.
“The safety and efficacy of e-cigarettes have not been fully studied,” says the FDA on its website, and consumers “have no way of knowing … how much nicotine or other potentially harmful chemicals are being inhaled during use.”
“E-cigarettes are encouraging a new generation to become hooked on nicotine,” reports the Mail Online. I have to agree after reading the rather tempting flavours such as apple pie and candy floss, my 12 year old asked of she could taste my e-cigarette.
Never thought I would become addicted to my e-cigarette
“E-cigarettes do not burn or smoulder the way conventional cigarettes do, so they do not emit side-stream smoke; however, bystanders are exposed to aerosol exhaled by the user,” said the authors.
Toxins and nicotine have been measured in that aerosol, such as formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, acetic acid and other toxins emitted into the air, though at lower levels compared to conventional cigarette emissions – ucsf.edu
Are electronic cigarettes addictive? YES they are
Do e-cigarettes need to be regulated or are expensive enough without the government putting up the prices in the name of safety?
