After having potty trained 6 children I could call myself a potty training guru, but I am still having bedwetting problems.
Kaiden is my 5-year-old son, 6 next month yet still wets the bed.
It’s so frustrating because he hates and I mean hates putting on a pull up, he calls them nappies and asks me why he needs to wear one, because he’s not a baby.
I need help with bedwetting problems
We have a waterproof sheet on his bed, but without a pull up on he wakes soaking wet and freezing, not to mention the fact that wee stinks.
I have tried everything to solve the bedwetting problems to no avail.
It isn’t something new, there are no family problems or changes, and this has been constant from potty training.
He has never had an accident during the day since being potty trained, which makes me feel he hasn’t a bladder problem, more so that he’s a deep sleeper and just doesn’t wake when he needs to go during the night.
Waking him during the night to take him to the toilet does not work.
Limiting his fluid intake does not help and I don’t like doing this.
I tried a reward system a year ago, this failed miserably as he can’t stop wetting the bed, and he isn’t doing it deliberately.
I have asked the Health Visitor and the family GP but because of his age they say it’s very common and while that is reassuring to know there isn’t anything wrong, it doesn’t help his confidence at bedtime.
Has anyone else come across bedwetting problems at the age of 5 and 6 who can advise me further?
Any help appreciated x
