My due date came and went and with it 3 sweeps which didn’t work so I was booked in to be induced at 42 weeks. I Got there for 9 am had a heart monitor put on for an hour, just to check she was doing OK. I had a pessary inserted at 10 am, still with the heart monitor on and thing to see if and when I had any contractions for 2 hours.
I started to get little but painful contractions about 12 pm. I had them till about 5 pm and then they had to check to see how many cms’s dilated I was to be told I was only 2cm. I had a little walk around the hospital and then decided to take a shower. My contractions started to get very intense and close together. I had heard from others that being induced makes your labour more painful but I just wanted to meet my baby.
I was being induced but was just so excited to meet my baby
It sounds stupid now but I went to the toilet and felt like I needed a poo AND I started pushing, this was at 7:15 pm and my fiancè went to get the midwife. When she came in she asked me to lie on the bed so I could be examined. I started freaking out saying her heads out but it wasn’t.
Because I had been pushing the baby had pushed her own amniotic sac out. I was the full 10cm dilated and had to be rushed down to the delivery ward. When I got there they popped my waters and I started pushing literally straight away. I went into my own world so I could concentrate on pushing, I had no pain relief at all.
I had her at 7:52 pm, so I was only pushing 20 mins. It was the best moment ever, her being put on me, she was beautiful. I did have to have stitches, but I hardly noticed them as I was so absorbed with my tiny new bundle.
Apparently I was the quickest labour and birth they had seen at the hospital for a long time. Being induced didn’t seem to be so bad. I loved labour and the birth, the pain didn’t phase me at all, the midwife kept asking if I was ok because I was so quiet. It was the most absolutely amazing experience ever.
